While many of us our enjoying winter sports such as skiing and skating, it's important not to forget to protect our skin. For those spending a lot of time outdoors this winter, we've put together a quick checklist so you can safeguard your skin from the cold weather.
DRINK PLENTY OF WATER
Air travel and outdoor exercise can quickly dehydrate the body, so drinking water is essential to keeping the bodys organs functioning optimally. Drinking 6-8 glasses a day is recommended.
USE SKIN MOISTURIZERS AND PROTECTANTS
Protect your skin by using a moisturizer to seal moisture in. You can use a household basic like Vaseline Petroleum Jelly to form a barrier between your skin and the elements.
WEAR SUNSCREEN SPF 15+ (BROAD SPECTRUM)
Use sunscreen on exposed skin especially when in snow, on ice or at high altitudes -- all intensify the power and skin damage of UV rays. Don't forget to protect your lips too!
WEAR SUNGLASSES
The glare of sun off snow causes an increased UV threat to eyes so choose sunglasses that block 100% of UV rays and wear them at all times, whether you're driving or skiing.
REDUCE THE NUMBER OF WARM BATHS
Hot water strips skin of natural oils and can be extremely drying to the skin so limit the number of hot baths and showers you take
WEAR BREATHABLE FABRICS
Look for fabrics that "breathe" to help keep sweat and moisture away from skin, since 90% of clothes insulating effectiveness is lost when clothes get wet.
