BEFORE YOU COLOUR YOUR HAIR
Well, the week before you color you hair, make sure to really condition the ends so that they don't absorb too much color during the process.
The reason? The ends of your hair are usually the most porous and have a tendency to really soak up color.
BOOST THE SHINE OF YOUR HAIR
Once your hair is completely dry, finish it off with a cool blast of air to seal the cuticle.
The reason? If the cuticles are ragged, there is no shine...
MORE ON SHINY HAIR
Did you know that avocado was good for your hair? Yes, it is!
So mash up an avocado with a tablespoon of olive oil and a tsp of baking powder. Mix this until well combined and then work the mixture through your hair.
Go and surf this site for about 15 minutes and then wash out
MAKE YOUR HAIR BOUNCE
If your hair is dull and lifeless, you can make it bounce again with this simple method remedy. Soak 1 tbsp. fenugreek seeds (methi dana) in water overnight. Grind this to a paste and rub into your scalp. Shampoo after half an hour. After a shampoo, you can wash out your hair with a mixture of vinegar and lemon juice in a bucket of water. Just turn the entire bucket over your hair.
GREAT SMELLING HAIR
Spray hair brush with body spray to have great smelling hair all day long.
REDUCING FRIZZ
For frizzy hair, try using a little body lotion to tone down the frizz.
WAVY HAIR
To get your hair wavy overnight, sleep with a loose braid in your hair. You will have beautiful waves all day long. Combing your hair too much after taking out the braid will reduce the time the braid will last.
EASIER MORNING HAIR
To make it easier to take care of your hair in the morning, wrap it in a silky scarf before you go to bed. This will make it much easier to comb and style in the morning.
COLORED HAIR
If you have colored your hair, always remember to cover your hair while sun bathing.
TANGLED HAIR
To get rid of tangles in your hair, brush your hair from the bottom. If you brush from the top, you pull tangles together, and eventually create knots, making it harder to take care of hair.
EXCESS SHAMPOO
Use of too much shampoo will strip your hair of its natural oils.
CHANGE SHAMPOO
Don't stick to one type of shampoo, doing so will allow your hair to become immune to it thus rendering it less effective.
MORE WATER, LESS SHAMPOO
Wet hair thoroughly before adding a dab of shampoo. You will be suprised at how little shampoo you really need. If you don't have the lather you desire, try adding a little more water instead of shampoo.
KEEPING HAIR CLEAN
How often you should wash your hair is different for everyone. You will know the time is right by the appearance and feel of your hair. It is as simple as that.
HEALTHY HAIR
For healthy hair fill you diet with lots of vegetables, vitamin A, C, B complex, iron, iodine, and copper.
REMOVING BOND GLUE
Out of bonding hair glue? use an oil sheen to remove the glued hair tracks.
STYLING AIDS
To make it easier to style hair, heat up styling products such as pomade, with blow dryer before appling them. This makes it easier to apply, hence easier to style.
ALTERNATIVE STYLING PRODUCTS
If you run out of styling products, try using hand lotion to smooth hair. It can also add shine and easily washes out.
A SOFT TOUCH
Did you know that simple water boiled with a few tea leaves can soften your hair? You could do the same with yoghurt.
A MAGICAL INGREDIENT
Did you know that Mehndi (henna powder) is a natural conditioner? Especially, if you add lemon juice and curds (yoghurt) to it to make a thin paste. Apply this on your hair and wash it off after an hour. But if its rich brown hair colour that you want then add coffee or kaththa (catechu) to henna, along with sugar, lemon juice and tea water. Apply this to your scalp and wash off after half an hour. You will have a beautiful reddish brown colour.
IS YOUR HAIR DRY?
If your problem is dry hair, first massage coconut or olive into your scalp. Then soak a towel in hot water, squeeze it and apply around your hair for 15 minutes. This hot-towel therapy, popular in the west also, helps the hair absorb oil and moisture. Then massage scalp once again and shampoo.
NATURAL HAIR CLEANSER
Lets start with a simple home-made shampoo or a natural hair-cleanser. Mix 10 roothas, 10 shikhakai pods and 10 tbsp. dry amla with 10 cups of water in a pan and let them soak overnight. Next day, reduce this preparation to half its quantity by letting it leaving it on a slow fire. Then cool and mash these herbs. What you strain out can be used as a great herbal shampoo.
GREAT SMELLING HAIR #2
Add a few drops of essential oil to hair gels, pomades, balms, or creams for a sweet smelling style.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU COLOUR YOUR HAIR?
"It depends on the growth rate of your hair," says colorist Giselle of the Pierre Michel salon in Manhattan. "You should go in for a highlight application every two to four months, and single process color application about every six weeks."
Giselle, who has pumped up the blonde in such actresses as Sharon Stone and Renee Zellwegger, also says, "During the summer hair grows faster, but it also naturally lightens up, so you don't have to get your highlights done as often as during the winter."
REDUCING BUILD-UP
Rinse 1 cup of apple cider vinegar in your hair to reduce build-up.
SHINY, WET LOOKING HAIR
To get that super shiny "wet look" with any brand hair gel, apply to hair when wet. Don't blow dry or comb hair; let it dry naturally.
SWIMMER'S HAIR
Work conditioner through hair and leave in before going to the pool; prevents chlorine damage.
LONG LASTING CURLS
To make curls last longer, do not remove rollers till hair has completely cooled down.
HOW TO DRY YOUR HAIR
When blow drying your hair, start at the roots. This will give your hair more lift and body, and also allow your hair to dry quickly.
TESTING HAIR STRENGTH
Fill a sink with water, and push your hair in it. If your hair floats, you are fine. However if your hair sinks, then it is damaged(It has holes or pores in it, that is why it sinks), and you need to get it treated.
HOW TO GET SHINY HAIR
To get hair shiny, wash and blow dry it the night before. Your own natural oils will add to making it more shiny in the morning.
REDUCTION OF SPLIT ENDS
To avoid split ends use a wide-tooth comb after washing your hair.
REDUCTION OF GREASY HAIR
To aviod greasy hair, scrub scalp very lightly when washing hair. When scalp is scrubbed harshly, sebaceous glands are activated, and this produces more oils.
INCREASE HAIR VOLUME
To increase volume in hair, put small amounts of baby powder or powder eye shadow on roots. (Make sure powder matches hair color).
MINIMIZING STATIC
Try spraying Static Guard (or similar product) on brushes and hats or rub hair with a dryer sheet to minimize static.
GETTING RID OF DANDRUFF
To get rid of dandruff, apply one spoon each of apple cider vinegar, vodka, and warm water, and a drop of tea tree oil to hair after shampooing. Keep in overnight, and style as usual in the morning. Do not rinse out.

SHINY, SPARKLY HAIR
I found out that after washing and conditioning your hair, you should rinse it out with cold water and it will give it a nice shine!
GREASY HAIR?
Don't you hate it when your hair gets greasy and you have to run somewhere real real quick, but you still wonna look good? Well, instead of showering..... use baby powder! Weird, but true. The baby powder obsores the oil, and makes it look better. Oh... but uh, don't forget to brush it out so your head's not all white!
DRY HAIR?
Don't you just hate that dry type feeling in your hair? Well all you have to do is get a bowl and mix one teaspoon of mayo and one egg. Run the mixure through your hair (after you brush your hair of course!) and then wrap your hair in tin foil for about 20 min. Afterwards wash your hair thoroughly(you might have to wash your hair a couple of times) and use conditioner. This will bring back moisture to your hair and makes it healthy!
TIPS FROM DR. GEORGE MICHAEL (LONG HAIR EXPERT AND EXTRAORDINAIRE) :
Don't wash hair every day. Think of hair like a piece of fine silk that begins to fade after repeated washing. In addition, overwashing hair can actually make it greasier. Properly brushing hair every morning will distribute the scalp's sebum to the thirsty ends.
Don't color long hair -- it's very damaging and should be avoided if possible. Surprisingly, highlights are much better for long hair since only the roots are touched up each time.
Use only a boar bristle brush with a wooden base. I own a George Michael brush (retails around $30) and use it faithfully at home. But the brush I carry in my purse is an expensive Mason Pearson half boar bristle/half nylon brush with a rubber base -- a real no-no. Dr. Michael explained that natural materials are least likely to cause hair damage. He worked with Kent of London to design what's been called the "best brush in the world" for long hair -- the Kent LHS #5. I'm saving my pennies to buy one... they retail for about $200! - Jennifer Bahney
